Simple steps to boost internet speed by 80% in windows 8

Windows 8 is now becoming a popular operating system. Here I’m going to show you how to increase your internet speed in windows 8. By default windows 8 reserves 80% of the available bandwidth for updating windows and stuffs like that. In many occasions you might felt that in Linux you are getting more speed compared to windows. If you are following the following steps, you will get the same speed as in your Linux.

Step 1:

Please note that almost all advanced settings in windows, is opened with the run command. Open start and search for “run” (Without Quotes) and select the run and press enter. That will show you the run window. You can also open the same dialogue by pressing “Windows + R”. Another option is to open DOS Prompt. You just type “cmd” (Without Quotes) in the search in the start screen. I suggest run, because it is the most convenient method for most users. This is only because of the simplicity of the run window and more over that, most of the windows users might have familiar with the run dialogue. Usually run is used by the administrators. This is the reason why run is not so much user friendly. As you can see in the following image there will be only one text box for typing commands. Sorry I forgot to tell you that why run is useful to us? Run is only used for executing Executable files. You can specify arguments while you type the name of the desired application. When you are required to open some application in safe mode, then you might have to approach the run.

Step 2:

Now you got the run deluge. In the open text box type “gpedit.msc” and hit enter. so that you will get the advanced settings window titled “Local Group Policy Editor”. Please check out the following screen shot for reference.

The following window will appear after hitting the enter key in the run dialogue.

Step 3:

In this window you can see two panels. In the first panel expand the Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, Select QoS Packet Scheduler.

Step 4:

Now it’s time to work on the right panel. You can see 3 folder and 3 Setting files. Open the second last setting called “Limit reservable bandwidth”. You will get the following window. And there you can see Not Configured is selected. If not, then you are configured this setting already. In the options section you can see a text box. In that text box you can see the number 80 is disabled. Which means 80% percent of the band width is reserved for system. Change this option to “enabled”.

Step 5:

Now you can see that the Bandwidth text box is enabled. Change the default value 80 to 0. This means you are limiting 0 percent of the available bandwidth. And press ok to save the configuration.

Step 6:

Re connect your internet connection after restarting your computer. For every advanced settings change you must restart your system to feel the change.

Step 7:

That’s it. In many tutorials you can see too advanced things such as registry editing and similar stuffs. I won’t recommend that because that makes a lot of headache.
